The London 2012 Olympics promotional posters continue the organization's tradition of melding high art and graphic design to create memorable and iconic images that capture the spirit of the time in which they were made. This series is decidedly more abstract than past offerings. Literal representations of sports are resisted in favour of abstract references to olympic iconography - rings, a podium, laurels, and water.
Other artists who have designed posters for the games in the past include Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Andy Warhol.
